Innovative approach for a monument

Much of the Binnenhof renovation consists of replacing technical systems. Most of the systems and installations in the Binnenhof are over thirty years old. Which means they are long due an overhaul. For that reason, the Central Government Real Estate Agency is installing networks, cameras, microphones and good lighting.

BIM model

The Binnenhof is built on old foundations which support monumental walls. The Central Government Real Estate Agency has therefore had a BIM model drawn up. Building Information Modeling provides a digital model of the building that reflects reality down to the millimetre. For this, a specialised company performed scans in and around the Binnenhof. Using the BIM model, it is possible to determine exactly where and how much space there is between those old foundations and monumental walls for cables, pipes and systems.

During the renovation, thousands of metres of new cables and pipes will be installed.

Tennis court

The Binnenhof and Dutch tennis are inextricably linked. In 1500, Philips de Schone had a 'caetsbaan' built behind the Ridderzaal, the precursor of the modern tennis court. Later, a wall was built around the court because too many nearby windows got broken.
