Het Depot
The Binnenhof in pause mode
Over the coming years, the Binnenhof will undergo an extensive renovation. The 'residents' have temporarily relocated to other sites. All the buildings have been vacated to make room for the builders. In this special depot, numerous objects from the Binnenhof are stored. Unusual objects, but also very ordinary ones. Come and have a look. You may recognise some of them. Some come from the wall of the Ridderzaal, for example, or from one of the many iconic rooms in the Binnenhof.
During the renovation, nearly all the contents of the Binnenhof are safely stored in various depots in The Hague and Rijswijk.
Cheers!
In the sixteenth century, the Binnenhof must have hosted many social events. During the archaeological dig on the site of the former Hofgracht canal on the south side of the Binnenhof, these five Jacobakannen jugs were found. Typical jugs for drinking beer. We don't know exactly how they ended up together in their final resting place. Archaeologists assume that they fell into the water during a party.
